A power failure forced the premature end of the fifth annual Cadence-Lypso competition.
The competition was progressing smoothly; all eleven competitors had performed and Gordon Henderson had only sung about five songs when lightning struck and impacted the electricity supply at the Pottersville Savannah.
The competitors were; Dexter Deros Peltier, Jude ‘JayDee’ Delauney, reigning champion Anton ‘White Fayrie’ Joseph, Delma Daniel, Chris ‘Chris B’ Sylvester, Jerd Dorsette, Kelly ‘De Ghost’ Williams, Murphy ‘Sye’ Jno Jules and John ‘Mauzzers’ Mark.
The band competition segment did not take place.
Breve, Signal Band, Ti Orkest and Look Us Band were to play for forty-five minutes each.
The National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) conceptualized the competition five years ago to rejuvenate the cadence art form, expose and cultivate Dominica’s talent, and create an export product for Dominica.
UPDATE: The NCCU announced on Thursday 3 November 2016 via email that “after consultation with the bands and our partners, we have decided to host the Band Competition next Saturday November 12th. The venue and time will be announce as soon as the relevant authorities have given approval. We will then do an official press release with full details”.
