ROB TAYLOR, known as Zii, second of three sons, spent his early years growing up on a sheep farm in rural Lancashire, England. Through the hard work ethic of farm work, and the nurture from his parents, who also played a little guitar and piano, Zii found his love of music and he began piano lessons at the age of eight and soon after showed his love for the saxophone. When Zii was eleven his father, an Optometrist by trade, took up a post in Saint Lucia. Zii was enrolled in the Saint Lucia School of Music. There he studied saxophone under the tutelage of Barbara Cadet. Zii is a former member of Amate, joining in 1992. He played on both their first and second albums; and was part of the group’s music videos. Zii has also shared stages with artists such as Buju Banton, Beenie Man Michael Bolton, Fantasia, Beres Hammond and Dave Koz. In 1996 he partnered and formed Kronic Heights Productions working on studio albums with the dancehall reggae group Kronic Heights, Leebo, Meshach and Itooba. Zii later toured with Ky-mani Marley in the US thanks to Clifton Dillon and Shang Records alongside Maxi Priest, Toots & The Maytals and Andrew Tosh. Zii has formed musical groups such as Soulfood & The Vibe Tribe showcasing his versatility vocally and on sax with original music and giving young, up and coming musicians opportunities to get started in the music industry. Zii has released two CDs and in 2008 at the Saint Lucia Music Awards, he captured the Instrumental of the Year with The Calling. In 2015 Zii was inducted into the Wall of Legends at the Arts Café in downtown Castries.
